Turkish National Day Reception - 2013

Togla Bermek 31.10.2013

Distinguished Mostarians,

Honourable Guests,

On behalf of the members of our General Consulate and on my own behalf, I thank you all for being able to attend our Reception which commemorates the 90th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey.

It is very pleasing that friendly and brotherly relations in all fields between Turkey and Bosnia and Herzegovina are constantly developing day by day. I truly believe that, in the years ahead our relations with this beautiful country, which we already sharedeeply-rooted historical, cultural and human ties, will also improve in the economic and commercial fields. This is also the main priority of our Consulate.

I believe that, brother cities have special role in developing the relations between Turkey and BiH. Currently,

29 Turkish cities have brother relations with B/H cities. Mostar and Kayseri, being two brother cities have commonly realized many fruitful projects. We can say that, they have joined the “bereket” of Neretva with the greatness of the Mount Erciyes. I hope these relations will be further strengthened.

I am aware of the fact that, Mostar has been involved in several political problems during the last few years. But I am sure on that, Mostar which managed to rise from the ashes of the unfortunate civil war and become a shining star of the region with its natural resources, tourism potential and two universities, will be able to get rid of these problems in due time.

During the most difficult period of our history, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk stated that “The independence of our country will only be achieved by the will and deciseveness of our nation”.

After the achievement of this goal by the support of our nation, our Republic, 90th anniversary of which we are celebrating today, was established. Like this historic anectode, I certainly believe the bright future of this beautiful city will only be achieved by the will and efforts of all Mostarians
By saying a big welcome to all of you and extending my gratitudes for your presence here tonight, I would like to end by commemorating Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his fellows, who are the founders of our Republic, with respect and mercy (rahmet).

Atatürk
